Optics Testing Methodology

Our testing methodology covers low-light performance, weather sealing, ergonomics, durability, and real-world field comfort. The criteria below are what we use to decide whether a hunting binocular earns a recommendation.

Test criteria

• Low-light performance — dawn and dusk glassing, exit pupil math, coating quality
• Glass clarity — edge-to-edge sharpness, chromatic aberration, contrast
• Weather sealing — nitrogen / argon purge, water and fog resistance
• Ergonomics — focus wheel feel, eyecup design, glove use, fatigue over hours
• Durability — drop tolerance, armor toughness, lifetime warranty terms
• Field comfort — weight in a chest harness, balance, tripod compatibility
