Size, Weight and Design

Yosemite Binoculars are made of high-quality glass prisms and they are fully multi-coated so as to increase light transmission for brighter images. The binoculars measure 4.5 inches from the front-to-back and have a width of 6¼ inches when fully extended. They can fold down to more than 5 inches wide. The Yosemite 8×30 models weighs 1.8 pounds.

Magnification and View

Leupold Yosemite 8×30 numbers provide very important information on these the binoculars. The 8x refers to the magnification provided by this binocular. The 30 is used to refer to the diameter of the objective lenses measured in millimeters. This gives rough estimate of the amount of light that they will admit. With a magnification power of 10x, this binocular offers excellent vision.

What makes Leupold Yosemite 8×30 stand out when compared to the other 10x binoculars is its limited amount of shakiness which is displayed while viewing moving images. Typically, most 10x binoculars will amplify hand movement while viewing these images but this binocular is surprisingly stable.

Focusing

The focusing knob is large with a rubber coating that has raised ridges so as to provide additional purchase. This makes it easier for the small fingers to also use this binocular. The focus mechanism is quite steeply pitched. The Binoculars can go from the minimum close focus to infinity in around 0.7 turns of its knob.

Having a less distance to travel so as to achieve reasonable focus is a plus in a child’s hands. Yosemite has a minimum close focus of 16 feet. While this isn’t very close focus as compared to modern binocular standards, the binocular has an excellent depth of field that may be of more importance to the young people. The longer eye relief Yosemite is ideal for the users who wear glasses.

Optical Performance

Leupold Yosemite has a fairly impressive optical performance. The color fidelity is good with no discernible bias in colors. The images are also bright and of quality excellent too. Even on the brightly lit objects, the binocular has little color aberration at the center of the field.

Color fringing is also minimal even at the field edges. The pin-cushioning ( the tendency for the straight edges to bow inwards at the edges of a visual field) is also very slight.. To sum it up, the optical performance of leupold Yosemite binocular is excellent.

User Adjustments

In user-adjustable features, everything is basic and simple on the Yosemite. The diopter is usually adjusted using a twist ring that is found on the right ocular. The raised ridge found on the ring usually lines up with a white dot that is located on the ocular tube so as to indicate the position for equal eyes.

In addition the minus and plus signs to either side usually indicate the directions of adjustment. The ring Resist movement stiffly to help hold it in its place. The eyecups can adjusts between 2 positions using a helical counter-clockwise twist so as to raise them for better focusing.
